Some coffees exist in legend, whispered about among connoisseurs, pursued with near-obsessive devotion. Hacienda La Esmeralda’s Geisha is one of them. This is the coffee that changed everything—the varietal that redefined what was possible in a cup. Though Geisha’s origins trace back to Ethiopia, it wasn’t until Hacienda La Esmeralda introduced it to the world that its true brilliance was revealed.

Before we were ever selling coffee publicly, before Tabeeb Roasters was even an idea, we had the chance to experience this coffee ourselves. Three years ago, we acquired a small amount of Hacienda La Esmeralda Geisha for our own enjoyment. It was one of those defining moments—where a single sip rewires everything you thought you knew about coffee. The unmistakable jasmine and bergamot aromatics, the burst of tropical fruit, the silken, almost tea-like body—this was not just coffee. It was something transcendent.

Today, Geisha remains the holy grail of coffee, and Panama stands at the pinnacle of the specialty coffee world. The country’s high-altitude terroir, with its volcanic soils and perfect microclimates, has elevated it to near-mythical status. And no name in Panama carries more weight than Hacienda La Esmeralda. Their auction lots have fetched prices as high as $10,000 per kilogram, with elite roasters and collectors around the world competing for the privilege of ownership.

For the first time in three years, we’ve managed to secure a micro-lot from their Private Collection—a tier of exclusivity just beneath their legendary auction releases. Though slightly more accessible, it remains astonishingly rare, reserved only for those who seek out the extraordinary.

What Makes This Coffee So Famous?

It’s all in the cup. Hacienda La Esmeralda’s Geisha Natural is a rare indulgence, a coffee that transcends expectation. The aroma drifts like a delicate perfume—jasmine and honeysuckle woven with the gentle sweetness of ripe stone fruit. Each sip is a study in balance, where mango and peach unfold with a soft, honeyed warmth, accented by a touch of citrus and the quiet depth of wild berries. A silky, almost weightless body carries a refined acidity that lingers with effortless grace. It’s a coffee that rewards presence, an invitation to slow down and engage the senses—where patience reveals layers of quiet complexity, and focus turns each moment into something extraordinary. The finish is long and delicate, a whisper of florals and fruit that fades like the last note of a perfect melody—an experience to be savored, never rushed.

Truth be told, we considered keeping this lot for ourselves again. But this year, we’ve chosen to share it—a decision we may not have the opportunity to make again anytime soon. Coffees like this don’t linger. They arrive, dazzle, and disappear, leaving only those who acted quickly with the privilege of experiencing them.

Once it’s gone, we can’t say when we’ll see it again.
