Journey into the Blue Mountains of Jamaica
Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee – A Journey into Rarity and Reverence
Our journey to bring you one of the world’s most coveted coffees led us deep into the heart of Jamaica’s Blue Mountains, a place where mist clings to the peaks, time slows down, and coffee grows unlike anywhere else on earth.
We spent several days immersed in this extraordinary landscape, guided by our friend Brandon, who runs Nunk Farms. Our adventure began with a long, winding drive up the far side of the mountains, eventually arriving at Brandon’s grandfather’s estate, a beautiful home nestled within the farm’s historic grounds. There, we learned about his legacy: a pioneer whose vision helped shape what is now a rare and highly prized coffee.
From there, we continued our ascent, switching vehicles, then eventually setting out on foot when the terrain became too treacherous for wheels. The rain-soaked, slippery trail wasn’t ideal for filming, but it was the kind of hike you remember forever. At the summit, we were greeted by the iconic blue haze that gives these mountains their name, surrounded by clouds that would occasionally part to reveal breathtaking views.
There, in the clouds, we brewed coffee on the very land where the beans are grown, an experience as serene and soulful as the cup itself.
We are incredibly lucky to have formed relationships with the people behind this coffee, who welcomed us with warmth and generosity. Their hospitality and passion gave us a deeper appreciation for what makes Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee so exceptional and so rare.
Grown at altitudes exceeding 5,500 feet, these beans benefit from cool mountain temperatures, rich volcanic soil, frequent rainfall, and a natural mist that shields the cherries from harsh sunlight. This slow-growing environment results in beans that develop complex, nuanced flavors: smooth, mild, and low in bitterness, with delicate floral notes, hints of chocolate, and a creamy, refined finish.
But Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee isn’t just about taste, it’s about legacy. First introduced to Jamaica in the early 1700s, this coffee has been meticulously cultivated for centuries. Today, its production is tightly regulated by JACRA (Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority), ensuring that every bag bearing the name meets the highest standards of quality and authenticity. Only coffee grown within a specific region can carry the prestigious title, and only a small amount is produced each year.
That scarcity, combined with its unmatched flavor, is why Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is so highly sought after. It’s not just coffee, it’s a symbol of excellence, craftsmanship, and heritage.
We feel honored not only to share it with you but to have seen firsthand the care, history, and humanity behind every bean
